Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience in a warehouse/inventory control atmosphere or material handling, two (2) years of which includes experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

  • Education may substitute for experience up to the maximum of two (2) years.


Licenses or Certifications:

  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License, if required for the position

  • If required for position, legally mandated training must be completed within 1 year of employment.

All new employees are required to attend City of Austin and Austin Public Library training as scheduled, and should arrange their outside schedules to accommodate such training.

Working additional and/or extended hours may be required per business need.

Driving is considered an essential function of this position; a current and valid Texas Driver’s License is required. You must also meet all requirements of the City of Austin Driver Safety Program. Click HERE for information regarding the City’s Driver Safety Program standards.

If selected, you will also be required to drive your own vehicle between assigned Library locations. Thus, you must maintain a current and valid Texas Driver’s License and provide proof of auto insurance.

Pay Range

$21.31 – $27.06

Hours

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday (6:00 a.m. till 2:30 p.m.)

  • May be required to respond to emergencies off hours (i.e.: nights, weekends and holidays)

  • May occasionally work beyond assigned shift.

Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the Library.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Two (2) years in a lead or supervisory capacity in a warehouse/inventory control atmosphere or material handling.
  2. Experience supervising the activities of workers engaged in receiving, sorting, loading/unloading and delivering materials.
  3. Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
  4. Experience working with fleet vehicles to ensure proper maintenance.
  5. Prior experience in the selection and hiring of new employees; evaluates employee performance; develops and implements action plans for improving employee performance.
  6. Good communication and leadership skills used to build positive working relationships and provide excellent internal and external customer service.
  7. Average computer skills needed to perform job.
  8. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


  1. Monitors and ensures section operates efficiently within appropriated budget. schedules expenditures; analyzes variances, initiates corrective actions and assists with procurement activities.

  2. Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results.

  3. Controls inventory levels by reviewing data recorded in tracking system, retrieving data, designing reports and directing corrective actions to manage the inventory levels.

  4. Reconciles physical inventory to inventory control records and addresses and resolves variances.

  5. Provides support to departmental staff by researching and resolving discrepancies, recommending actions to manage inventory levels, and disbursement of inventory.

  6. Ensures warehouse safety and security by maintaining compliance with guidelines, reporting discrepancies, and recommending corrective action.

  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
