Notes to Applicants

This temporary position was created to assist with the implementation of the City’s recently approved Earned Sick Leave Ordinance.
The successful candidate will be able to respond to citizen questions, assist with outreach efforts, assist in drafting investigation procedures, and conduct investigations into allegations of ordinance violations.

Pay Range

$23.44- $29.80 per hour


Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Work schedule may vary due to operational need. Occasional work during evenings/weekends may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of investigative practices
• Experience interviewing potential witnesses
• Experience performing investigative work in a regulatory setting
• Experience determining compliance/non-compliance
• Skill and experience writing reports and other business correspondence
• Experience developing/facilitating training
• Experience representing a government agency
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Valid Texas Class C Driver License

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Interprets Federal, State, and local laws/ordinances.

2. Receives phone inquiries or walk-in complaints.

3. Investigates complaints by obtaining statements from witnesses or other involved parties, interviewing complainants to determine the nature of complaint, and conducting research necessary to evaluate the merits of the complaint.

4. Assists in the analysis of gathered data to determine the merits of the complaint.

5. Prepares recommendations for Administrator approval concerning unsettled complaints.

6. Compiles and analyzes complaints and other available data regarding discrimination to identify potential trends or problem areas, and provide recommendations to management for preventive and/or corrective action.

7. Serves as representative for community outreach events and identifies programmatic needs as it relates to the Earned Sick Leave Ordinance.

8. Assists with maintaining effective relationships with employers in the community.

9. Keeps accurate records of comments made by the public in meetings and other settings.

10. Supports staff in preparing curriculum and outreach materials to support Earned Sick Leave.

11. Develops and facilitates related training and seminars for respondents impacted by the Earned Sick Leave Ordinance.

12. Represents the City at Council meetings, boards, commissions, and community events.

13. Tracks community issues through various media such as written reports, conferences, and community meetings.
