    Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus six (6) months training or experience in phlebotomy collections

Physical Requirements:

    Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
Notes to Applicants

The Phlebotomist performs collection of laboratory specimens necessary for identification of STDs, as well as baseline and monthly laboratory specimens for TB patients. This includes but is not limited to phlebotomy, packaging and mailing of specimens to reference lab. The laboratory staff maintains records of quality control, preventative maintenance, CQI documentation, audit of infection control practices and has an on-going written quality improvement program.

In addition this position will be responsible for the following,

  • Will comply with safety practices and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Provides assistance and support to other Communicable Disease Clinic areas as directed by supervisor.
  • Phlebotomist will prepare and package lab specimens to be sent to Women’s Health Lab in San Antonio.
  • Ordering of lab supplies and organizing the inventory storage room is done as requested by the TB/STD staff based on need for supplies.
  • Serve as chaperone for STD exams as needed, if permitted by number of clients needing phlebotomy.

Pay Range

$14.00 – $16.77 Per Hour


Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
