The City of Austin seeks a Senior Planner to be part of the Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program team under the Transportation Systems Development Division of the Austin Transportation Department.

Under the direction of the TDM Program Manager, this position will focus on community facing TDM programming and policy. Duties may include:

  • Austin Strategic Mobility Plan – TDM support: be a key team member for the ASMP, conduct best practice research for TDM strategies, collaborate with consultant on TDM program development and public outreach, assist with plan writing for the TDM section, participate in public outreach and education.
  • CodeNEXT and Transportation Criteria Manual – TDM support: be a key team member for the project, conduct best practice research for TDM code language, conduct research on quantification of strategies, assist with criteria manual language writing, assist with development of quantification methodologies, participate in public outreach and education.
  • Manage the contract for the Smart Trips Austin program, coordinate with co-funder CapMetro, participate in weekly project team meetings, review and approve project deliverables, plan for future programming, plan for future funding opportunities
  • Responsible for updating the annual TDM report and manage community facing messaging on TDM.
  • TDM liaison to other City Departments such as Austin Center for Events, Austin Energy, Economic Development, and others as needed
  • Research and apply for local, regional, or federal funding for TDM programming
  • May assist with other Austin Transportation Department projects as needed.

Pay Range

$25.80 – $33.43
Commensurate

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with TDM policy on a local, regional, or federal level.
  • Experience with TDM program / project development, management, and/or implementation.
  • Understanding of behavior change concepts.
  • Experience with developing and/or implementing individualized marketing programs similar to Smart Trips Austin.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Experience in conducting data analysis with Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficient with Geographic Information Systems software and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with transportation guidelines from the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and others.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with internal and external team members and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

8. Interprets/explains/enforces City policies & procedures, building/land development codes, specifications, ordinances, etc.
9 .Attends City Council, board, and etc meetings to provide technical advice and assistance. Coordinates activities of various boards, committees, etc.
10. Writes informational reports. Writes/draft legal documents, i.e., contracts, regulations, ordinance amendments, resolutions, etc.
11 .Develops, utilizes, and modifies complex transportation planning models. Reviews complex traffic impact analyses.
Responsibilities- Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:
Perform as Lead Case Manager. May coordinate the activities of other planners
