Preferred Qualifications

Austin Energy is seeking a subject matter expert for extract-transform-load (ETL) software toolsets (incl. InfoSphere and DataStage) for the Database, Data Warehousing, and Business Intelligence team. This position provides advanced technical support, maintenance and administration ETL toolsets, works with project teams in support of development and implementation of data integrations between source and target data sources, provides troubleshooting, scheduling, deployment and monitoring of data integration jobs and their execution, makes recommendations on patches, upgrades, and performance enhancements to maintain optimal health of environments, and support development, test, and production environments.

The position will play a key role in the Business Intelligence area of the IT Enterprise Architecture team, responsible for development and administration of the IBM Information Server suite that enable data integration and reporting.

Preferred qualifications:


  • Experience in business intelligence and data integration tools, an acquired broad array of skill sets, including experience with databases, development practices, system administration, and data integration concepts.

  • Experience with SDLC (systems development life cycle), including requirements, development, testing, implementation

  • Experience developing data-centric applications and/or large scale data transformations using SQL and/or other database query languages

  • Experience installing and managing IBM Information Server suite of tools (DataStage, Information Analyzer, Quality Stage)

  • Experience with UNIX/Linux environment, to include scheduling, UNIX shell, and scripting

  • Cursory knowledge of transactional and reporting data models, specifically Oracle database platform

  • Experience with IBM Web Application Server

  • Experience working in the electric utility industry

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate productively with IT employees and customers of varying levels of technical knowledge
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Implement and integrate highly complex business systems including the design and architecture of system interfaces, configuration management, documentation, administration, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintain detailed plans for systems disaster recovery and testing
2. Plan and forecast budget needs for new hardware and software including the retirement of existing systems
3. Make independent decisions with significant impact  for procurement of technical solutions in their focus area
4. Test, install and/or upgrade, and implement new software and/or hardware and releases 
5. Develop and/or implement and ensure the compliance of IT policies, standards and procedures
6. Provide solution based cost analysis 
7. Consult on projects or lead project management of enterprise storage, systems implementations and development 
8. Assist project teams in planning, designing, evaluating, procuring and delivering software and/or hardware purchases ensuring specification compliance
9. Communicate and make presentations to the City’s technical departmental representatives and department business managers
10. Research and analyze the technology market and vendor products to determine the strategy that best meet the IT business needs
