General Maintenance Worker II: 18 years old and 2 years of experience

Notes to Applicants

The purpose of the position is to assist in maintenance of the City of Austin Swimming Pool Facilities and Parks throughout the Austin Parks and Recreation Department.

  • Perform park grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, and cleaning of loose debris.
  • Perform pool maintenance such as removing debris/leaves, painting pool shells, pressure washing, and acid washing.
  • Perform minor repairs/maintenance on equipment.
  • Operates department maintenance equipment and hand tools.
  • Performs safety inspections and addresses deficits of designated equipment.
  • Drives City of Austin service vehicles and trailers.
  • Assist the general public with questions/concerns.
  • Other tasks include servicing special events and other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
With other personnel assistance, tasks may involve occasional lifting, pushing, carrying or using a force equal to less than 100 pounds.

Driver’s License and other Certifications:

  • If selected as a Top Candidate, a Texas Class C Driver’s License or have the ability to acquire one by the date of hire will be required.
  • A three (3) year driving record will be required.

  8. Removes graffiti or paint and cleans/paints swimming pool shells
  9. Will pressure wash, acid wash, and paint pools.

  • Knowledge of general grounds keeping processes, policies and procedures within the Parks and Recreation Department.
    Knowledge of assigned areas, i.e., hike and bike trail surfaces, athletic fields, equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Ability to operate power tools.
  • Ability to lifting and carry equipment or materials applicable to the work being performed
  • Ability to train and lead others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
