Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years experience in repair and maintenance of electronic controlled pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
Experience may substitute education up to four (4) years
Licenses or Certifications:
If required must obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within ninety (90) days of hire.


Notes to Applicants

This position reports to the Waller Creek Tunnel Facilities section, but is required to assist with other work crews in the Field Operations Division.

Essential functions and responsibilities specific to this position:
1. Maintain and service all mechanical equipment.
2. Operate and maintain the Bosker unit (trash collecting).
3. Operate and maintain dewatering pumps; conduct oil changes.
4. Operate, maintain, and adjust gate actuators.
5. Operate and maintain overhead cranes.
6. Operate the following: forklift, skid steer, Boom Crane truck, and Dump truck.
7. Use welding machine and cutting torch.

ASSESSMENT:
Candidates selected to interview is subject to a skills assessment(s).

EDUCATION:
Education verification will be conducted on the top candidate.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold a current applicable driver’s license. If selected as the top candidate, your driving record(s) will be evaluated. Job offer is contingent on meeting the City’s Driver Eligibility Standards which includes not exceeding the applicable Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) points or City Driver Points (CDP).

COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE:
Job offer will be contingent on passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test and thereafter, comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing rules as outlined by the City of Austin Alcohol and Drug Policy for Drivers of Commercial Motor Vehicles.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continuous outdoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, inclement weather, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying/lifting up to ninety (90) pounds, exposure to wet environments, indoor activity, and confined spaces.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Work in various types of weather conditions and terrains, including wet environments and confined spaces.

Pay Range

$19.36 – $24.59 per hour

Hours

40 hours, 4 days per week

May require working outside of normal business hours as dictated by business needs. In addition, work schedules may change to rotating shifts during emergency weather events. Must be agreeable to accepting on-call assignments which might result in a call-back to work.

Knowledge and 2 years experience with 480 vac Variable Frequency Drives

Knowledge and 2 years experience maintaining and repairing Electric Gate Valve Actuators

Knowledge and 2 years experience repairing hydraulic and pneumatic pressure systems

Knowledge and experience with SCADA systems

Experience with operating and repair of Overhead Crane

Have taken OSHA Confined Space Entry training

Experience using a cutting torch and welding multiple types of metals

Commercial Class A or Class B Driver’s License

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Develops weekly schedules for periodic maintenance and trouble-shooting. Records work performed and parts used for billing purposes.
2. Communicates with equipment users regarding schedule of periodic maintenance and other maintenance needs.
3. Conducts routine inspections.
4. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. Orders/issues parts and supplies.
5. Performs electromechanical repairs to complex equipment.
6. Modifies or refurbishes equipment.
7. Estimates time, labor and materials for budget or billing purposes.
8. Performs welding, braising or fabrication of some parts.
9. Maintains technical data on equipment to be serviced. Maintain inventory of parts.
10. Monitors contracted maintenance services.

May lead and train others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of symbols used in engineering drawing, circuit diagrams or schematics.
Knowledge of basic operations of small electric motors and pneumatic or hydraulic pumps.
Knowledge of safety in repair of energized electronic equipment.
Knowledge of operational function of equipment to be assembled repaired or maintained.
Knowledge of testing of electronic components.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in performing electromechanical equipment and component repair.
Knowledge of complex electrical systems.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.

Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to test and calibrate equipment or controls to close tolerance.
