This application is for 4 City of Austin Summer Internship Programs: Emerging Leaders Internship Program, Get Ready! STEAM Based Internship Program, Aviation Department Internship Program, and Austin Convention Center Internship Program. Placements within each program are made by program staff, and are based on intern interest and placement availability. Preferences are not guaranteed.

All final candidates must participate for the full duration of the program and may not have more than 3 absences during the 7 week period (6 week period for the Austin Convention Center).

  • Emerging Leaders Summer Internship Program: Interns work with City of Austin departments and other local organizations in the Austin area. This internship has a focus of practicing and enhancing leadership skills while gaining professional experience in the workforce. This is a 7 week internship, from June 4, 2018 – July 20, 2018.

  • Get Ready! STEAM Based Internship: Interns will work in occupational areas that contain one of the S.T.E.A.M. areas of focus. These internships allow youth to work in a professional work environment, allowing them to gain work ethic, work experience, and learn more about a S.T.E.A.M. centered career field. This is a 7 week internship, from June 4, 2018-July 20, 2018.

  • Aviation Department Internship Program: Interns will work in various divisions of the Aviation Department at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Previous placements have included: Ground Transportation, Property Management, Finance, Planning & Engineering, Security, and the Visitor’s Center. This internship is a 7 week internship, June 11, 2018 – July 27, 2018.

  • Austin Convention Center Internship: Each intern will be assigned to a specific unit for the duration of the program, preferred choice is not guaranteed. Students will have the opportunity to intern with various divisions of the Austin Convention Center and Palmer Events Center in order to gain knowledge structured around convention events and the hospitality industry. Examples of the divisions within this hospitality field include: Accounting, Administration, Building Maintenance, Environmental Compliance Services, HR, IT, Marketing, Parking Services, Purchasing, Public Event Services, Safety and Security and Sales. This internship is a 6 week internship, June 25, 2018 – August 3, 2018.

Pay Range

$8.00 per hour


20 hours/week, hours vary. See below for program dates.
