Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience in the following:

  • Experience in building and custodial maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining cleanliness of public/customer service areas, storage areas, and parking lot.
  • Experience operating and maintaining small equipment; and in using cleaning chemicals and the safe operation of power cleaning for all equipment used.
  • Experience in minor building repair

Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve bending, lifting, pushing, pulling walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following:

  • General custodial duties, including cleaning floors, restrooms and offices
    Mix, stir, and pour cleaning chemicals
  • Mop, sweep, scrubbing and vacuuming floors
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms
  • Gather and remove trash and recycling
  • Perform grounds maintenance
  • Perform minor building maintenance and repair
  • Operate and maintain assigned cleaning equipment
  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies, submit purchase orders when needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of equipment used in janitorial, grounds keeping, or other related work.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment; including power tools and vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to mix solutions according to manufacturer’s suggested labels.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull equipment or materials (up to 50 lbs.) applicable to the work being performed.
  • Ability to bend at the waist or knees to carry out duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to assess needs and work under light supervision.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and write English.
