Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License
  • In-depth experience with creating facility plans, from reconfiguring the wing of a building to replacing an entire facility, and in developing facility solutions that are forward thinking, yet practical, cost-effective, and evidence-based.
  • Ability to evaluate the current state of facilities, consider a variety of internal and external factors such as the impact of sustainability initiatives, library technology trends, and strategic direction of the City of Austin, and develop a framework for systematically realizing the desired future physical environment of the department.
  • Ability to take the lead role in facility planning, including the following key processes in the pre-design phase: current state assessment, facility sizing, functional and space programming, financial requirements, and defining the delivery network of design development and construction.
  • Ability to manage the department’s inventory of property to ensure safe operations and in managing staff to keep each location maintained, cleaned and secured.
  • In-depth knowledge of real estate, space planning and property management, including knowledge of alternative workplace solutions and Reliability Centered Maintenance processes.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  1. Manages a division or unit that provides facilities support in the area of custodial, security, warehouse distribution, and building maintenance.
  2. Oversees construction of new facilities, building renovation, and ensures that new furniture and equipment is installed at all new facilities
  3. Prepares, submits, and reviews division or unit goals, objectives, and accomplishments, and monitors expenditures to keep the operation within budget.
  4. Oversees the Capital Improvement and Program (CIP) management for the department, and ensures that all CIP documents are completed and submitted to the Budget Office on time.
  5. Ensures that all bond election documents are completed and submitted to the Budget Office and Public Works Department on time with the approval of the Director.
  6. May oversee lease agreements and land acquisitions.
  7. May represent department interests at annexation meetings, the Intergovernmental Bond Coordinating Council, Planning Commission, City Council, and other meetings.
  8. May serve as department liaison to neighborhood.
  9. May manage department's vehicles.

  • May be responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
